ROSALIND TALLMADGE: BETWEEN HARMONY AND INVENTION

A SUITE OF PAINTINGS COMMISSIONED FOR THE OPUS ONE ROTUNDA

A truly symbiotic collaboration, the site-specific commission was created to occupy five 10-foot tall niches in the winery's limestone rotunda that have stood empty for nearly 30 years. Drawing inspiration from the winery’s ethos of each Opus One vintage as a unique and exceptional expression of time and place, the five panels represent the cycle of the seasons and the relationship between terroir and the time-honored craft of fine wine.

LARS LY: THE BEYOND LANDSCAPE

A MEDITATION ON THE PARK AS INTERSECTION OF CULTURE, NATURE, AND MEMORY.

Drawing inspiration from the park as a place where we go to experience nature and pastoral pleasure in the midst of a busy, urban life, Ly explores the ancient Greek mythical ideal of Arcadia – the longing for harmony with nature.  For this project, Audra expanded on the ritual of returning to a landscape in all seasons of life to create a room that harnessed the essence of the idealized natural world. The resulting space is to be published in a forthcoming book by Phaidon and was selected by 1stDibs' editorial team.

GABRIELLE TESCHNER: MYTHS

IS IT A MYTH WHICH CONFIRMS OR CHALLENGES THE THING?

At first glance, the series of paintings by Teschner readily recall floral studies, but their subjects arose intuitively from memory. These paintings are presented for the first time alongside Teschner’s sculptures-that-are-flat, architectural constructions built from ink-brushed cotton muslin joined by thread. It also marks the debut of a new series of labyrinthine sculptures inspired by this collaboration. The juxtaposition of the two bodies of work illustrate Teschner’s unique ability as an artist to sculpt in two dimensions and conceptually explore the properties and illusions of volume as a sculptor.
