A Tribute to Companionship

Sometimes you need to find a way

to keep a wonderful companion with you.

My dog Seamus saw me through college and into motherhood. When he passed away three years ago today after 17 years, I wanted to make a place for him in our new home.

The idea for a dog weathervane for our Queen Anne cupola came after seeing the weathervane exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum.

After some additional visual research, I made a drawing of Seamus uniting several historical styles. David Ferro, a skilled weathervane artist, who lent the greyhound vane shown at the AFAM that first inspired me (!), worked with me to get the tribute and likeness just right.

It is so special to have him guarding the way home for us.

A special place above it all for a very special friend.
